Naukri time.. !

Even after pondering for so much time, my menneger mind cant come up with a seemingly convincing excuse as to why I haven't been looking at my own home page for all this time. Pure Laziness, it says.

Lot of things contribute to this. First, as I have mentioned in my earlier posts, this blog really isn't about all the worldly matters and my opinion on them, because most of the times I dont have one. This space is reserved mainly to write about incidents of my life, which i believe would make a good read and some of the pondering which i occasionally do over different matters.

But anyways, let me start yet again.

The ball has rolled again. Files have replaced books. Cubicles have replaced classrooms. Colleagues surround in place of friends. Hotels have replaced the hostels. Oh, and of course, salary has replaced fees.. ! :) Well, its Naukri time again.. !

This fresh start in the corporate world has been different in many ways. The training / honeymoon period isn't the same. By the time you figure out the rules of the game, you are expected to have won it.. ! Highly demanding and challenging. ! Well, loving it so far.. ! :)

And the journey continues.

More to come.

Cheers,

Dhruvin

Being twenty something.. !!

Yeah... I am back again.. ! Had founf the article on the internet a couple of years back. When i read it for the first time, i could relate to it almost entirely. Thought would put it up here.. atleast to keep the poor D's Diary get going.. ! :)

Take a deep breathe and ponder for a while.. !!

Being Twenty-Something ..

They call it the "Quarter-Life Crisis." It is when you stop going along with the crowd and start realizing that there are many things about yourself that you didn't know and may not like. You start feeling insecure and wonder where you will be in a year or two, but then get scared because you barely know where you are now.

You start realizing that people are selfish and that maybe, those friends that you thought were so close to aren't exactly the greatest people you have ever met, and the people you have lost touch with are some of the most important ones. What you don't recognize is that they are realizing that too, and aren't really cold, catty, mean, or insincere but that they are as confused as you.

You look at your job...and it is not even close to what you thought you would be doing, or maybe you are looking for a job and realizing that you are going to have to start at the bottom and that scares you. Your opinions have gotten stronger. You see what others are doing and find yourself judging more than usual because suddenly you realize that you have certain boundaries in your life and are constantly adding things to your list of what is acceptable and what isn't. One minute, you are insecure and then the next, secure.

You laugh and cry with the greatest force of your life. You feel alone and scared and confused. Suddenly, change is the enemy and you try and cling onto the past with dear life, but soon realize that the past is drifting further and further away, and there is nothing to do but stay where you are or move forward.

You get your heart broken and wonder how someone you loved could do such damage to you. Or you lay in bed and wonder why you can't meet anyone decent enough that you want to get to know better. Or maybe you love someone but love someone else too and cannot figure out why you are doing this because you know that you aren't a bad person.

One night stands and random hookups start to look cheap. Getting wasted and acting like an idiot starts lto look pathetic You go through the same emotions and questions over and over, and talk with your friends about the same topics because you cannot seem to make a decision. You worry about loans, money, and the future and making a life for yourself...and while winning the race would be great, right now you'd just like to be a contender!

What you may not realize is that everyone reading this relates to it.. Just that some of us are past this experience.. some of us may be going through it.. And the rest will go through it.

Cheers.. !!
Till Next time..

Resolutions...

"Half an hour earlier is the success of life".. Have grown up listening to these words from grandpa.. but still struggling to implement them..

But thats Okey.. although half a month late, finally, i have decided my new year resolutions..

1. My only present passion is to find out my passion. If a few months back i was interested in nothing specific, i now my self taking interest in too many things at a time.

Confused as always.. ! !

And so, the resolution is - To clear the clutter and try to pursue a couple of activities/hobbies /extra currics/interests/etcetc which as per my resume, gives me a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction.

2. "Be Positive" .. Last it was heard of only in the motivational books and blood groups.. but never in my grade sheets.. so let me try and keep my head further above the "sea level"... atleast in this term.. and the next..

3. To be a more regular blogger.. so that all of you are not deprived of the life saving gyan.. ! Or atleast hitting this page more often.. so that the numbers on the counter don't get bored..

4. To record all the on campus experiences... as i see every other person writing about all the intersting stuff happening on the most coveted campuses.. who knows, it ight well be the only source of income in case the recession continues.. !! :)

5. Start an NGO for the sensex affected people .. any contributors.. ! ?? :)

Cheers.. !

Till next time..

Life at IIM..!

If there's one thing that has taken most of my time during the last four months - except sleeping of course- it has to be F-R-I-E-N-D-S ..!! It is simply awesome.. !:)

Filled with Emotions, Romance, Drama, Sex, Comedy, Beauties, Witty one liners, Joy and of course Joe..! This fun filled series really strike a cord with me.. !

Wait.

Now don't you expect me to analyze it as to why so and what was so different than the other similar ones.. ! I don't know and - honestly - I don't care.. !

I take it and like it for just what it is - like most of the other things.. ! Almost Everything.

Sometimes I really think whether I am too indifferent to most of the things. Is it really necessary to have opinions about these things, or rather EVERYTHING..!! ? I have seen people around who are genuinely knowledgeable and opined on these things - from the concepts of Mahabharata to Greek Culture to Movies to Cars to Cartoons to Books to Science and also, on almost all the persons around...!

And lemme tell you.. sometimes you feel like a complete waste and idiot when standing with them over a cup of coffee..!!

I have felt this before and so have genuinely tried to improve too - or rather change myself - :) But it doesn't work out.. ! Really, I mean, I am fundamentally not interested in nor comfortable with banging my head on something which doesn't affect me.. at least not in any direct way.. !

So.. Live in the present. Care for the things around you. Try to be above the 'C' level and enjoy life.. ! :)

That's my little philosophy of life@IIM.

May be I am right. May be I am not. I don't know..!

But does that matter too.. ???? :)

Cheers.. !

Till next time,

Dhruvin.

The CAT Mania...

Its the D Day again.. ! The deciding dreaded day has come again.. ! And by the time I write this, has past also.. ! Hard work, speculation and fear are going to be replaced by excitement, hope  and relief. But hold on guys, as they say the real battle starts after CAT.

Millions of posts are being written on CAT and rightly so when you have more  than 2.5 Lacs people going for it with almost 15-20% increase every year.. ! And then there are social loafers like me who wont mind taking clues from various posts but would contribute little. Or may be, I just saved a lot of people from reading again the same old posts, full of strategies, advices and what not.. !!

But anyways, I found myself writing this as I follow the events of the day closely. The 3 grand attempts aren't seem to be enough and I find my self, again, sitting down, opening PG and reading all the events and happening meticulously. Once a cattie, always a cattie.. ! :)

Invariably this reminds me of the last year, which I believed was going to be my last attempt for CAT. I had to get past this one. And with my abysmal performance in the earlier two, the stakes to prove one's self were even higher.. ! But then this time, the journey proved to be fruitful. All the jugglaries like cut offs, attempts, accuracy, score, rank, percentile, sectional, verbal, quant, RC and what not, finally seemed to favor my cause. At last, I did manage to pull it till the very end.. ! Fierce, sacred, respectable - The CAT - was belled.

Perhaps, this is the only exam, which involves a lot of emotions - as for most, like me, it becomes a question of to be or not to be until you crack it and unless you are some born intelligent, it'll take some time before finally managing it. The famous world "Meri Kahani" on PG proves as a testimony for that. Its worth to spend a few minutes to go through it. Some of them are a wonderfully written experiences.

Anyways, wish you all the takers, the very best for the results.. !! May the best man win...!

Till next time,

Cheers.. !

The QT Disaster...

Nah.. this isn't about my pathetic quantitative technique grades... its rather about a 'Cutie Disaster'.. ! :)

Now, how many times do we imagine that the empty seat right next to us will house some cutie...!! All of us.. invariably.. !  And sometimes it does come out to be true... !!

I remembered this incident just before a couple of days.. It was just on the previous Diwali, that i was going to Delhi for some stupid documentation work. I was pissed of as I would be reaching home just on the Diwali night. And so wasn't really excited about this trip.

So, coming to the point. I saw her standing right at the door of my compartment, presumably with his brother or boy friend. (Nah, it was her boy friend.) I checked up my seat, upper birth, and sat there without thinking much about her. 15 more minutes and the train started moving. And There she was in the same compartment..! Now she wasn't really breathtakingly beautiful or anything, but she was cute and was also travelling alone and had the upper birth just opposite to mine.. ! Also, given the average age of all the other passenger in the compartment was above 50, I was really looking forward for some conversation and was thinking about the same mentally...

Just around the same time, the famous men-in-black of the train came. A rather huge one. I showed my ticket and he moved on to check hers. As it turned out, the poor lady was desperately searching for her ticket. And as it turned out, the boyfriend had forgotten to hand over the ticket to her.. !

To avoid any scene, she went out and tried calling him in vain. TT wasn't in any mood to let go and even shouted on her a couple of times.. ! The veterans in our compartment started the gossip. ! "They were so busy with each other.. No wonder she forgot the ticket.. ! ", one lady commented. I just smiled wearily at her.

Poor lady came in and asked TT to wait for sometime till she figured out some way. She didn't have the cash too and was on the verge of crying. We offered to help but she didn't agree. Apparently, they found a way to deliver her the ticket through the Ratlam station master or some such arrangement and the matter was solved. she cried for about half an hour and then straight went up and slept till the time Delhi arrived. The fellow tried calling like 60 times but she wouldn't pick up..  :)

Bu anyways,  all the mental techniques I had started thinking on were a complete fiasco and all hopes shattered.. ! Once More.. !

nah... never mind... at least it kept me busy and occupied in otherwise a boring journey.. ! :)

Cheers.. !

Till next time,

Dhruvin.

The Choice...

Scene 1:

Q: So dhruvin, why do you want to go in for a sales and marketing profile?
Ans: Sir, I think I am good at Execution. I have been involved in various execution projects during my job as well as engineering and I really do not feel comfortable while planning out things. I believe I am good at and also like to maintaining lasting relationships with people. I have been travelling a lot and have enjoyed it thoroughly. Plus operations and IT are not my favourites. And I am not really good at numbers. So i believe I am best suited for S&M.

1 day later:

Q: So dhruvin, why do you want to go in for a finance profile?
Ans: Sir, Whatever little I have learnt till now, in our accounting, macro economics and finance subjects, I have found my self comfortable with the same and also found it interesting. I am interested in stock markets too and have been an investor for nearly 2 years now. IT and operations aren't my favourites. And I believe, I lack the creativity and the witty and smart sense of talking, as characterized in any marketing job. Combined these, I believe finance would be the most suitable career for me.

Now, what the hack.. !

I had developed these answers essentially for the summers, but actually have ended up believing in both of them !!! What to do.. !

I remember my engineering days where in we studied not less than 48 subjects - Design, Manufacturing, Refrigeration, Air conditioning, Thermal Engineering, Metallurgy, Fluid Engineering and what not.. ! All I used during my work were some concepts of half a chapter of a power plant engineering book.. !- Domkundwar.. ! I still remember.. !! :)

So the point is, does that really make a difference to think and make an informed choice.. ! If I had really liked design, did I have an option to join a firm which offered me a design job.. ! Nah, We dint have that luxury - at least at that time..

But may be, better to make an informed choice.. As they have rightly said, "Destiny is a matter of choice.. " !

So, well, i guess I'll have to start thinking over it again from scratch. And hopefully would come up with an answer at least by the time i have to opt for one of them.

Meanwhile, when you've taken this much of a pain to read up til here and I am sure you do know me as you have been able to locate this obscure blog, why don't you suggest something.. ! And I am serious about it.. ! :)

Cheers.. !

Till next time,

Dhruvin.

The BT- Breakup Therapy

Now, as a rule of thumb most people think that all the spicy things that people write in their blogs are actually incidents from their own lives. So let me make it very clear - This isn't about me, ok? I just wish i have had someone to breakup with.. ! :)

Anyways, we all hear this word a hell lot of a times, from different people. Firstly, there are , lets say, poor people - or emotional people, who actually break down when there is a breakup. Then, we have those smart people who, i believe, feel kinda proud when they breakup and use it as a stepping stone to achieve higher girls; oops sorry; goals, in life. And we have a third kind of people who just feel like breaking up and then again tying up with the same person. I really call these people as maniacs and I am yet to understand their philosophy.. !

But sometimes, I am just amazed by some of these people when they willingly or unwillingly use this to achieve some higher goals - Personal or more often professional ones.

May be we could make this concept commercial. Charge a nominal fees and get people on a common platform -Provide them with atmosphere and incentives to first enter into a relationship., continue it for some time. Then systematically through variety of means to break it up.

Who knows, if PT hasn't been working for you all long, BT might just do the trick.. ! :)

Cheers.. !

Till next time,

Dhruvin.

The Nuke Deal...

The much awaited and the much talked about nuke drama finally coming to an end, or lets say happy end.. ! The hard negotiations and lobbying by the government finally paying off as the deal has already been approved by the house of representatives and due to get through the senate as well.

Much has been written and we all know what we tend to gain. The access to nuclear technology, the fuel and all the know how.

But when I sit back and think about it, just imagine how hard it would be for our scientists, who have put years of research and hard work behind developing our own thorium based technology. They have succeeded in the first phase and we are having running thorium based reactors at a couple of places. They also have developed the prototypes of converting this thorium into enriched uranium and using it for production of power on a larger scale.

These are the people who put in their lives into the project they love and I am really not sure whether they have any enthusiasm to continue with it. Anyways, our spending on the R&D isn't the highest and this deal will certainly result into reductions of that I guess. Try putting in our selves into their places. Its not that easy man..!

Even otherwise, in how many sectors we have promoted and succeeded in developing indigenous technologies? I can think of only space and our software industries. All the core sectors like manufacturing and hard core design still depends upon the foreign technologies. And worst, we are not even trying to address this issue. There are hardly a couple of organizations in the country which actually carry out any serious research activities.

May be this is one area which we need to address. Or wait ! Should we focus on quality primary education first?

As Robert Frost rightly said, "Miles to go before I sleep".. !

Lnt Memories - 2 - The Encounter...

There are a few incidents in one’s life which gets embedded in to the hard disk of a human brain. Describing one such incident – don’t worry, just the highlights :)

It was the first day at my job after a weeklong series of presentations and finally I was assigned to a department and was waiting to meet the head. He was in fact the vice president of the unit. There were seven of us waiting in the nearby meeting room of the den where the lion resided.

As it had to be, I was chosen as the first casualty and he called me in.

Contrary to all the expectations about being welcomed in the department and blah-blah, this moron dint smile once. Within the first two minutes I scored and so got my first promotion right there – from a GET to “Bloody Bugger”. And it was just the starting. As I enlightened him with some quality mechanical engineering knowledge, I kept on getting the adjectives during that interview which perhaps were too personal to be written over here. Still I’ll give you some of the sixes that he hit on me.

Dialogue 1: “Gentleman, If all what you think would have been true, half the girls of this world would have been raped”

Dialogue 2: “You bugger, if you are masturbating in a river and it happens that a nude woman is standing in the same river, and by chance if she gets pregnant, that doesn’t mean you have raped her.”

Dialogue 3: “Do you think electrical engineers have bigger balls than you?”
I was about to faint when he finally let me out of the cabin.

Subsequently, came to know that it was a routine and I just faced the trailer whereas the other bosses went on a for full movie..!! :)

PS: Now this is what you call the real OB and effective communication...!

Cheers ...!

Till Next time.

LnT Memories - 1

22 months in LnT and baroda has been one of the most memorable experience of my life so far. Have learnt a lot during this period in both professional as well as personal life. Lemme introduce you in my subsequent posts to some of the most valuable friends / interesting personalities i met during that period.

Shubhankar Das:

Better known as Shubu...!!
If at all there exists some friends with the right spirit and with out any ill motives, i have ever met... he comes nearest in the cadre..! A true hostellite with an all time smiley face, bundle of best buddies, very little 'Hava', full of an optimistic attitude towards life.. ! And of course.. a 110 % open johari window...!!! Today learnt about connecting with people while communicating in the MOC class. This guy is the best example for that.

He's one of the biggest flirt i have seen..!! and very irritating at times with an all time sadu smile that probably girls like...!! But the guy is pure at heart...! and perhaps too pure for which perhaps he's paid.. ! He never quits though........!!! :)

Till next time,

Cheers.. !

Interesting One liners..

There are some one liners which sometimes you really wonder about or rather at once you notice and remember. Following is what I remember.

  • Most girls smell nice after taking bath, irrespective of the soaps they use.
  • While hugging a girl, if you try to smell her hair, it means you are in love with her.. !
  • I fall in love for the following reason.
o Everything is fair in love and war. So just to get some fairness :)
  • Life screws – Just when you think you figured it out.
  • Do not worry if your world ends today. It is already tomorrow in Australia..! :)

Cheers.. !

Deserve what you get.. !

Thats's what one of our profs. mentioned today and it stuck me right through.

We all have been fortunate enough to be what we are today and there are more number of variables that affected this than perhaps we can ever imagine. And its not us who arranged them in that particular order. Its the ultimate power, whom someone recognize as God, which arranges the variables and formulates the best equation for our lives.
Atleast this has been true with my life so far. There have been setbacks and so the urge to rise above them. Its all seem to be planned. Seems like you just have to keep on walking and the path will change its own direction guiding you exactly about your whereabouts and destination. I think we all have experienced this kind of harmony at some or the other point of life time.
We owe a lot to these happenings and to the world around us. Let us strive to help each other and to make this world a place a little better than what we got it as. Let is try to deserve what we have got.. !
Cheers.. !
Dhruvin.

Opposite Sex.. !

Now I don't know whether you have observed this, but as per my survey, every 3 out of 4 blogs have written something or the other about the opposite sex - read women - in their posts. And more often, they invariably touch the same old subjects - Extra shopping, silly talks and strange habits like blah blah blah and all.. !! Lemme do my own little contribution.

  1. Go to a party or any gathering and see a bunch of guys standing together. Invariably we think of them as the poor fellows without any option.. ! And sometimes despos. However, be it a group of girls standing in a corner and muttering some stupid things, the site changes from sadness to something really cute.. !
  2. Imagine a close up of a lady having a strawberry. Or for that matter ice cream or any other thing. You cant help but keep gazing it for sometime with the eyes wide open. The only difference if moi or for that matter any other poor little male poses like that, you'll still be amazed but only with the mouth wide open..
  3. The stupidity is attractive. Yes, trust me, i have seen at least a dozen guys telling me that stupid girls are more attractive than the intelligent ones. Ever heard of a stupid attractive guy.. !?
Surely, behavioural science is a complex subject.. !

Cheers.. !

Himess Rocks.. !

He really does...!

There are some people whom you just can not ignore, and surely he's one such personality. (the moment i changed my orkut profile with the above title.. the poor little and mostly sleeping scrapbook of mine was overwhelmed with people lining up for critisizing the poor fellow me.. ! including some of those who had not scrapped me for months.. ! )

Well, I have no doubts when i say i like him as a music director and to an extent as a singer. The facts prove themselves.. Starting from pyar kiya to darna kya.. tere nam.. aashique banaya apne... aksar... china town.. tom dick and herry.. and aap ka surror.. Namastey London and more than 50 0ther movies.. this cant be a record of some musician by chance.. Some of them have been a huge hit.
Consider following points.
  1. His songs are completely original, unlike some of the best known music directors of bollywood.
  2. The Music he has provided is awesome. Some of them atleast. Even his critics have approved of that.
  3. He has developed an entirely new class of songs for bollywood which is an achievement in itself. Call it indian rock whtever name.
  4. I do not care where the voice comes from. No body claims him to be the classical champ or something.. !

A national joke, he deserves much more than that. He may be too dramatic, may be crazy at times. But its ok i guess. After all its his true love story. ! :)

Let us not critisize someone just for the sake of it.

Cheers.. !

Dhruvin.

The Marathon..

Human brain is a funny thing. At times, when u really feel pissed off, it can get out of you a philosopher - a damn good one..
Lemme just put it here one such incident, which happened today.

You run for a college first. The moment you enter it, you start to prepare yourself for a better resume. Be a member of various clubs, committees, elections, and somehow you convince the interview panel about your excellent networking and team work skills. Not to mention those great communication skills. Congrats. You’ve passed the first stage. But it doesn’t end here. It just gets bigger with impressing the boss. And it just goes on – sometimes the parents, sometimes the teachers, sometimes the society, sometimes friends and what not.. ! (Even bollywood – remember? Pappu can’t dance sala... ! J)

Someone has rightly said, "It’s good to have an end to a journey, but finally it’s the journey that matters". I couldn’t have agreed more. At times, each one of us feels we are sacrificing some of the best moments of life in search of virtually something we don’t even know. We just don’t care about the things that we like the most.

May be this needs a bit more thinking. But as I just remembered my mid terms starting in a day or two, I guess we’ll postpone this. J

Till next time.

Cheers... !

Dhruvin.

It happened again.. !

And this time it was when i saw a couple of real good blogsites.. and thought about not-so-happening moi own lil site...
I remember it happened first when i was a kid, and we used to play cricket. I wanted to be like the best batsman around.. ! and it happened again when someone scored higher than me.. it happened again wen someone painted better than me.. when someone could talk freely with the opposite sex.. the list goes on.. !

Not that i just think and do not make any efforts, but the seemingly SUPPLY curve just transcends to be a SINUSOIDAL curve..! :)

lemme try once more and see whether this time i can maintain it straight.. !

Cheers.. !

Fellow L&Tites....!

Its been more than 17 months since i ve been in lnt... let me introduce to you some of the best characters and friends i ve met during this little journey so far... !

Varun ...... !

Weirdo... a complete one.. in case of any doubt just have a look at his orut profile (click here) and you will know how he manages to top the list by a huge margin.. !! I met him first on the first day of my office when we were waiting to be interviewed by our boss or 'D' as he's better known as. We were placed into the same department. Though initially i found him to be a normal one, he crashed all my notions when i started knowing him more. It is still difficult for me sometimes to understand his comments let alone laugh at it.. !! ( may be i am a dumbo..!! but for the time being we will ignore that fact.. ! ) The guy has a totally different and Weird view for whtever subject u r talking about.. !!

But then, he's pure at heart.. and i am sure the girl who finds him... ( as he's cant find one..!!) is bound to be his second love as the first place is occupied by his college and college life.. i have never seen a guy so obsessed about his colloge life and friends and the mastis.. And from the little things that he has shared with me it does seem justified...

He's full of patience and not complaining, as is clear from his still continuing in job and Watching thge first day show of Aap Ka Suroor with me.........!!!!! the great movie of great HImessssss.....!!

Good luck dude...!!

Engineer...

Well.. thts wht i am.. a certified mechanical engineer. I have been working in one of india's best engineering company. These are the companies that recruit the best talents available from all the leading colleges across the country. And how exactly are they being utilised.... ????? ( this dsnt really mean my being counted as one of india's best talents.. there are always exceptions.... ! really... :) )

i've seen many of my brightest class mates being put in to the departments where there is nothing really to conquer.. there are guys who have won at national and internatinoal level technical competetions and instead of putting them whtever little origninal technical things the indian companies are doing, they are put in to what may be callesd routine clerk-like work. I really wonder whether.. we really do not want any self sufficiency as far as technology is concerned.. or may be they are dumb, simply not able to identify the talent available. And not many of them are expected to continue much longer.Brain Drain, which we percived as the phenomenan of the previous generation, seems obvious.Brain Drain, which we percived as the phenomenan of the previous generation, seems obvious. Added to these, there are software firms which recruits the non-IT engineers as well.

I wonder whether the present system of education is really relevant in the rapidly changing present scenario. The softwares are taking all the good technical talents. And others arent relly interested much either..

With the software boom expected to continue for ateast some more time.. those people should find some ways to fill up the huge manpower requirement.. anyways.. they are turning a non - IT engineer in to a software professinal just in 6-8 months.. it should not take more than 12 months to turn the normal commerce/science graduates with good communication skills to be employable.
May be this will help building the huge gap between the graduates and shortage of employable people.. !!
